Hello all! Hope you all enjoyed the weekend! My goodness, it’s October! That means we only have three months left of 2012! I keep trying to calmly tell myself not to panic. My apologies for not getting to the writing prompt this week. Will do my best to make that happen starting this Friday. While you’re waiting, take some time to look at the opportunities this week. We’re running out of time for 2012. Let’s make these last three months count! Keep writing and keep submitting!
Contests:
1. Soul-Making Keats Literary Competition
Soul-Making Keats Literary Competition, (founded 1992) an open, annual, contest is currently accepting entries for all thirteen categories: Short Story; Poetry; Flash Fiction; Prose Poetry; Memoir Vignette; Novel Excerpt; Intercultural Essay; Shakespearean/Petrachan Sonnet; Humor; Religious Essay; Literary Nonfiction; Young Adult Poetry; Young Adult Prose. There will be the following prizes in each category: First Prize: $100; Second Prize: $50; Third Prize: $25. An entry fee of $5 must accompany each entry and the contest closes on November 30, 2012.
2. Folio
Folio is proud to announce its 2013 Poetry Contest, which will be judged by the acclaimed poet and translator, Martha Collins. The winner of the contest will receive $500 and publication in the Spring 2013 issue of Folio. A first runner-up and an honorable mention, will each receive $150. Entry fee is $15 and the contest will close on February 15, 2013.

1. So to Speak
So to Speak: a feminist journal of language and art is now accepting submissions for their Spring 2013 Issue. This issue will feature poetry and non-fiction contest winners, as well as fiction and visual art. Submission period closes October 15, 2012.
2. The Normal School
The Normal School, the literary magazine of the MFA program at Fresno State, is open for submissions. They accept poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. Submissions will be accepted through December 1, 2012.
3. Conclave
Conclave: A Journal of Character is open for submissions for Spring 2013. Conclave is a bi-annual print journal that focuses on character-driven writing in short stories, flash fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, prose poems and photographs.
4. Barely South Review
Barely South Review is looking for literary fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and art that moves. The fall reading period will end on November 30, 2012.
5. Heron Tree
Heron Tree, an online journal of poetry, is now accepting submissions until December 1, 2012. Accepted work will be published on the Heron Tree website and will be included in a yearly bound edition available as a print-on-demand volume. Weekly publication will begin in January 2013.
6. Quickly
Quickly, a new electronic quarterly literary journal, is reading for its October issue and beyond. Quickly is dedicated to publishing exciting work not limited by genre, and selected regardless of status or hierarchy. The only criteria is that the work be 703 words or less and be astonishingly well written.
