Hello All! It’s what you’ve all been waiting for! Fantastic Flash Fiction Week! I will be exploring the world of flash fiction for the entire week! I’m starting you off with some excellent opportunities if you’re a flash fiction writer (or if you just want to try it out). Have a look.

1. WOW (Women on Writing) Summer 2010 Flash Fiction Contest

A quarterly contest open to all styles of writing. Entries should have a minimum word count of 250, but

should not exceed 750 words. There is an “open” prompt. There will be a total of 25 winners announced.

2. Blue Earth Review Eighth Annual Flash Fiction Contest

Blue Earth Review is the literary magazine of Minnesota State University. The contest opens September 1, 2010 and closes on December 1, 2010. They ask that entries be under 600 words and there is a reading fee of $5. Submissions are accepted online only. There will be a total of 3 winners: First place receives $100, Second place receives $75, and third place receives $25. All three winners will be published in the Spring 2010 issue of Blue Earth Review. Visit their website below.

3. The Writer’s Digest 11th Annual Short Short Story Competition

Submissions should be no longer than 1,500 words. There is an entry fee of $20 and the contest closes December 1, 2010. Here are the prizes listed on the website:

First Place: $3,000 and a trip to the Writer’s Digest Conference in New York City

Second Place: $1,500

Third Place: $500
Fourth Through Tenth Place: $100
Eleventh Through Twenty-Fifth Place: $50 gift certificate for Writer’s Digest Books
