Hello all! Hope you had an awesome and productive weekend! Sometimes, we have to remember that just because we go through something bad or a bad period, doesn’t mean that we have completely failed. You may be experiencing rejection after rejection on a particular piece of writing. It’s easier said than done, but remember that those rejections are helping you grow as a writer. What can you learn from them? Are there any changes you can make to your work to make it better for the next submission? Those rejections will make it that much sweeter when you finally do receive that acceptance. Here are the opportunities for this week. Keep writing and keep taking risks.

1. Notting Hill Editions’ William Hazlitt Essay Prize
Notting Hill Editions is delighted to announce an annual literary prize for the best essay in the English language between 2,000 and 8,000 words, published or unpublished, on any subject. The award is named in honor of William Hazlitt (1778-1830), great master of the miscellaneous essay. Award value: £15,000. Five runners-up will each receive £1000. Authors of any nationality are eligible, but submissions must have been written originally in English. There is an entry fee of £10. Contest deadline is August 1, 2013.

3. Able Muse
Able Muse, a review of poetry, prose and art, will be releasing a special Translation Issue, guest edited by Charles Martin, and forthcoming Summer, 2014. This is an open call for submission for this issue which will feature several of today’s eminent english-language translators. Submit 1 to 5 previously unpublished and publishable translations. Submission deadline is March 31, 2014.

1. Opening for Non-fiction Editor at Prime Number Magazine
Prime Number Magazine is looking for a Non-fiction Editor! As Prime Number enters its 4th year of publication, they have an opening for a Non-fiction Editor to join their team. The Non-fiction Editor is responsible for reviewing and responding to unsolicited non-fiction submissions (other than book reviews, which are the purview of the Books Editor), soliciting work where necessary, and editing pieces accepted for online publication. The Non-fiction Editor also works with the entire editorial team (including the Editor-in-chief, Poetry Editor, and Books Editor) to shape the direction of the magazine through periodic conference calls, helps to produce the annual print edition and maintains social media presence. They are looking for someone with significant publication credits. Ideally, candidates will also have editorial experience.This is an unpaid position.
