Song of the Day: Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine

Happy New Year all! How did everyone bring in the New Year? I had a great time because I had family at my parents house from all over the U.S. And Trinidad! The only pitfall was that I spent much of the New Year’s Eve making centerpieces. It was all for a good cause though. My sister is married, and it was a beautiful wedding. I hope everyone is keeping up with their resolutions. What better way to start the New Year off right than with a few good opportunities? Take a look.

1. Asheville Poetry Review

Asheville Poetry Review awards a prize of $1,000 and publication to one poem annually. The winner will also be given a reading at the Wordfest Literary Festival in Asheville. Poets may submit up to three poems accompanied by a $20 entry fee by January 15, 2011. Please see the website for official details.

2. Crazyhorse Poetry and Fiction Prizes

Two prizes of $2,000 each and publication in Crazyhorse will be given to one short story and and one poem. Poets may submit up to three poems and fiction writers may submit a short story of up to twenty five pages with a $16 entry fee. For more information please visit the link below.

3. Wag’s Revue Winter Writers’ Contest

Wag’s Revue will award a prize of $1,000 and publication in the magazine for a poem, a group of poems, a short story, or an essay. All entries will be considered for publication. Writers can submit up to ten poems or 8,000 words or prose. The entry fee is $20 and the deadline is January 15, 2011. Please visit the link below for official rules and guidelines.
