Hello all! How was the long weekend? I’m off to a bit of a slow start this week. I keep pinching myself to make sure it’s actually September. In the blink of an eye it will be Christmas. Actually writing that down makes it more real and reminds me that I need to light the fire under my butt with my editing. I want to pitch my novel to an agent at the end of October and there is much work to be done. In order to achieve one of my goals this year, I need to get one more piece published. We’ve got roughly four months until the year is over. There is still ample time to get your work out there in any way you can. Take a look at the opportunities this week. 1. Memoir Contest- Times They Were A-Changing: Women Remember the 60s and 70s Anthology
Seeking women with tell-tale stories of that extraordinary era for a unique anthology: Times They Were A-Changing: Women Remember the 60s and 70s. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries, though all entries are eligible for publication: First place receives $300, publication, and 5 copies of the anthology; Second place receives $150, publication, and 3 copies of the anthology; Third place receives $75, publication, and 2 copies of the anthology. Entry fees are $20 for prose and $15 for poetry. Deadline is January 15, 2013.

2. The Missouri Review Editor’s Prize Competition
First place prizes of $5,000 each are awarded in fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Winners will be published in The Missouri Review and will be awarded an all-expenses paid trip to the Editor’s Prize gala. Runners-up also receive cash prizes and will have their work published in TMR. The contest closes on October 1st, 2012.

3. Gold Line Press’s 2012 Poetry & Fiction Chapbook Competition
Each winner receives $500, publication of her/his perfect-bound chapbook with ISBN, and 10 contributor copies. Gold Line Press sends out an additional 30 copies on behalf of winners to respected literary venues for review. There is a reading fee of $15 and the contest will end on September 30, 2012.

4. Mixed Fruit’s Carson Prize in Poetry or Prose
Mixed Fruit is pleased to announce the Carson Prize in Poetry or Prose, a writing contest that will present one winning writer with a $100 award and publication in the first print issue, to be published in early 2013. The Carson Prize is open to all writers in all genres. There is no entry fee (I repeat there is NO entry fee) and the contest deadline is November 15, 2012.

Little Patuxent Review is a community-based publication focused on writers and artists from the Mid-Atlantic region, but all excellent work originating in the United States will be considered. Little Patuxent Review is seeking submissions for the Winter 2013 issue. The theme is Doubt.
